I love meeting bold, mission-driven founders pursuing creative paths to shake broken industries. Strong brands - Consumer and Enterprise alike - have the power to bring communities together through delightful product experiences.

Hi, I'm María. After spending half of my life in the US, with stints in Hong Kong and France, I۪'m very happy to be back in Europe. I'm now closer to my home country Spain and working with amazing founders in this growing ecosystem.

I fell in love with technology during my time in San Francisco, where I sat on two opposite sides of the venture table. First at Credit Suisse, working on M&A and equity financings for internet and software clients, and then at Lyft, working with the management team to redefine the future of mobility through key business launches (e.g., self-driving pilots, in-house rental program, microbility...).

While studying my undergrad at Georgetown and MBA/Master in International Studies at Wharton/The Lauder Institute, I dived into the fascinating intersection of business and international affairs - one that becomes ever more important as startups expand internationally and teams become increasingly global.

I am inspired by businesses who place the customer as the compass of their products, building SaaS or consumer platforms with design, brand and unique technologies at their core. I see technology as an enabler of new realities that redefine industries and create a positive impact in the world.

Outside of work, you'll find me skiing, doing yoga, Taekwondo, dancing or cooking with family and friends.

Why We Invested in Lightyear

About a year ago, via our friend and co-investor Taavet Hinrikus, we learnt about a promising pair of ex-Wise (formerly TransferWise) executives who were under the radar, on a mission to democratise retail investment in Europe. At the time, in “stealth mode” the project was called Gandalf. As longtime consumer fintech geeks and Tolkien fans, we were doubly intrigued.
